Why Maintaining a Consistent Brand Voice Matters

by | Feb 26, 2020 | 0 comments

There is so much noise out there! Some of it can be overwhelming and another half of it can be intimidating for your brand making you think that that should not stay true to your brand’s own unique voice.

Well, I want to encourage you to cut the noise, stop believing that you have to be like the next big brand, and allow your brand to operate in its own space.

Trust me, your customers or clients will appreciate you for this.

Awhile back, I had the opportunity to share on this topic at a small business boot camp in Montgomery, Alabama. This event – hosted by the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, showcased just how important brand messaging is. One of the panel questions was on brand voice – particularly, how does a company find its brand voice?

This can be fun, challenging, or tricky for some brands.

While some, bask in just how unique they are, there are others who make the process very challenging and tricky for themselves because they want to be “like this person” or “that other brand.”

This all leads to confusion. Sure, it’s ok to find inspiration from other brands but you don’t want to “be like other brands.”

To find your brand voice, you must get back to your why. What are your brand’s core values? How do you want customers to perceive you? When you’re talking about your brand, how do you sound? If you’re working as a team, what do you all agree on when it comes to introducing who you are to the public?

These are all things that you should take into account including the tone and tempo towards your audience.

Once you have a general idea of how you want your brand voice to sound to the world, it’s important that you weave it all together in a brand messaging guideline that you and your team can always refer to.

Brand messaging guidelines include:

– A clear brand story.

– ideal client or customer personas.

– Your brand’s tone of voice that should be implemented on your website, email newsletters, and social media platforms.

– Brand positioning statement

– Elevator pitch

– Original tagline

– Keyword bank

– Suggested social media platforms.

This information ensures that your brand voice is consistent across the board. Remember your brand’s voice tends to populate in a number of places, so you don’t want to sound one way on social media platforms and different on your website or email newsletters.

The whole idea is to stay true to your core values. Are you struggling to find or maintain your brand’s voice right now? Comment below. I’d love to chat with you about how to define your brand voice.
