Top 5 Social Media Mistakes Businesses Make

by | Jun 20, 2019 | 0 comments

You’ve set up your social media pages with the perfect bio line and logo. Now you’re looking to gain followers who will love and admire your brand!

Before you go any further, be aware of what some businesses are doing wrong in the social media world. Besides being inconsistent with posts, the following mistakes could leave dollars on the table.

1. BORING CAPTIONS

You only have a few seconds to catch your audience’s attention. This means that the first few words of your caption should hook your audience in! Give them a bit of excitement or suspense to keep them reading after the “See More” indicator on social media posts.

2. POOR QUALITY PHOTOS

If you want your brand to be taken seriously, it’s time that you invest in making it look good! Make sure your photos are of good quality. By this, I mean strive for good lighting and good aesthetic if you’re taking your own photos. If you’re not taking your own photos, invest in a trusted stock photography site, where you can find related photos to use with your brand.

3. NO HASHTAGS

Hashtags are those words that bring you the utmost attention on social media – if you choose them carefully. It’s recommended that you use 30 hashtags on Instagram. I suggest you use a couple on Twitter and Facebook. Posts on Facebook tend to look a bit cluttered and unprofessional with too many hashtags.

4. NO VIDEO ACTIVITY

Let’s face it, video is the future! People want to connect with you! They want to see a behind the scenes day in your business, a tutorial, or a chat session related to your business. Videos receive more engagement than regular posts, so take out your phone and shoot a LIVE or recorded video.

5. NO RESPONSE TO COMMENTS

You’ve put up an awesome post on your Instagram page and it’s raking in the likes and comments. Don’t neglect those comments – not even for a day! Respond. Let your followers know that you care and appreciate their virtual support. Think of it this way – if you had a brick and mortar location for your business, you wouldn’t flat out ignore a customer or client that walks in and speaks to you. Right?

I hope these were a bit helpful to leverage your brand’s social media potential. If you need help implementing these tips, send me a message HERE.
