5 Secrets to Your Startup Winning on Social Media

by | Jul 7, 2019 | 0 comments

Social media doesn’t have to be scary for startup businesses! In fact, the first matter of business is PATIENCE. Patience is truly a virtue in this case. As a startup business owner, I’m sure you’re faced with many questions and sometimes a state of overwhelm when thinking about your social media strategy, while staring at a page of zero followers.

“My competitors are already winning!”

“How did they get so many followers?

“How long will it take me to win on social media?”

These are all common questions and concerns, that do not have to end in defeat!

1. DO YOUR RESEARCH

Don’t jump in head-first! Take some time to do your market research on your industry. Take a look at your competitors to get an idea of what’s happening on their pages. How does their audience tend to respond to their posts?

2. CREATE A STRATEGY

Now, that you know what’s already out there, it’s time to develop a strategy. Ask yourself or an expert which social media platforms do your brand belong on. For instance, if you’re a food business it would be wise to definitely include Instagram in your social media strategy because of the great visuals that you could provide. If you’re a life coach, LinkedIn should be a non-negotiable for your brand.

3. USE SOCIAL FEATURES TO YOUR ADVANTAGE

These days, there are so many features to experiment with on social media! Stand-out as a startup and gain more visibility with LIVE videos, Twitter polls, and Facebook/Instagram stories and polls. While it’s important to build a consistant feed of posts, it’s also vital to give your audience something extra to grab on to.

4. TRACK YOUR DATA

Scheduling tools for social media are great at tracking the results of your posts. In addition to those tools, your Instagram business insights are extremely helpful. This is where you the demographic information and the days and times that your audience is most active. Once you business’s Instagram page reaches 100 followers this information is available to you.

5. INTERACT WITH YOUR AUDIENCE

You will read this a lot from me! That’s because building relationships with your social media followers matter! Respond to their comments. Connect with others by visiting their pages and commenting on some of their recent posts. Those moments that are set aside for interaction create long-term support!

I’ve worked with several startups to leverage their social media strategy. In addition to these tips, I suggest having certain posts for certain days of the week that create engagement. For instance, if you’re a fashion brand reserve Friday’s for “Feature Friday” to feature some of your favorite fashion bloggers that reflect your style of clothing. If you’re a tech brand reserve Tuesday’s as “Tech Tuesday” to post worthwhile tips for your audience. This list goes on! These types of posts give your audience something to look forward to.

Additional tips, include hosting giveaways or challenges to get your audience involved with your brand. The key to building as a startup on social media is to create excitement and buzz about your brand. This along with your patience, drives results!
